Xian of the Death 

Christian Castañeda (also know as Xian of the Death) started her career tattooing in Mexico City almost 6 years ago. Clean lines and minimalism define her artistic style. Her pieces tend to focus on amulets, charms and symbols.


Artists and things that have inspired her are Mike Kelley, Daniel Clowes, all the ukiyo-e (Utamaro, Hokusai), Raymond Pettibon, Charles Burns, many comics and children's illustration books.

Christian graduated from the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esmeralda" (2003-2008), she was also part of the Contemporary Photography Seminar of the Image Center in 2007.


She was awarded a scholarship by the Foundation / Museo Jumex and Fonca-Conacyt scolarship in 2011 and 2012 to carry out two artistic residencies in Iceland. She has participated in more than thirty exhibitions both in Mexico and abroad, as well as festivals and art fairs in N.Y., Mexico, Canada, Copenhagen and L.A.


In 2017, Christian published her first book, Amulets and spells. She has collaborated with brands such as Adidas, Vans, Tommy Hilfiger and Victoria Beer.
